Maria Anna and Carl Wilberding

This is a Genealogy Page relating to the WILBERDING Family in IOWA. There are two separate families in Iowa: Carl Wilberding, who settled around Dubuque, and his brother, Anton Wilberding, who settled in the area of Breda. I am connected to Carl Wilberding's family. Today, as you can see from the map, my WILBERDING family resides in many known states. Anyone interested, please post a message and let me know where you might fit in or whatever. Include your E-mail address and I will contact you with info about your family, as I have it listed. I'm interested in any information you may have on any individual in my genealogy, particularly my direct line ancestors. If you have any photos or documents, I would really like to get copies and will post them here. If you wish to be notified of any future postings, enter your E-mail address at the bottom of the page. NOTE: If you have any specific questions about your family names, etc, send me an E-mail. If you wish to inquire or receive more info about your own branch of this tree, let me know. Raymond F. Wilberding Obituary

Raymond Frances Wilberding, age 81 of Melrose, Iowa, passed away on Sunday May 1, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa following a lengthy illness.
Raymond was born February 3, 1930 in Nobles County, MN, the son of Charles and Mary (Jasper) Wilberding. He moved with his family to Remsen, Iowa when he was one year old. He received his education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen and spent time helping his father on the family farm. During the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
On June 20th, 1956 Raymond was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggy” L. Ferris at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. Raymond’s love of farming continued in Cherokee County for the next 20 years until the summer of 1976 when he moved his family to a farm in rural Monroe County. Raymond continued to farm near Albia until 1986 when he was forced to retire due to poor health. The family then moved in to a house in Melrose, Iowa.
Raymond was an active member of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, the V.F.W. in Cherokee, the American Legion in Albia and at all of the Catholic Churches in the areas he lived. Raymond was a lifetime member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He loved spending his time with family and loved ones, his many road trips to the mountains, and spending his winters in Southern Texas.
Raymond is survived and loving remembered by his wife Peggy Wilberding of Melrose; three sons Mark Wilberding of Carlisle, Timothy (Helen) Wilberding of Applevalley, MN, and Gerald Wilberding of Port Arthur, TX; two daughters Vicki (Tim) Spurgin of Albia, and Teresa (Mark) Vance of Altoona; his grandchildren Sheena (Preston) Dau, Bret, and Clint Spurgin, Nicole, Abigail, and Andrew Vance, Bryce and Paige Wilberding, and Skyler Wilberding. Raymond is also survived by one sister Helen Flaherty of LeMars; and many other relatives and friends.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary; and two brothers Alfred and Lawrence Wilberding.
An open memorial has been established in Raymond’s name.

Sandra Wilberding

By Todd von Kampen
WORLD-HERALD CORRESPONDENT

* * * * *

Sandra Wilberding's Omaha apartment reflects a cheery, hard-working life.

She would still be working, she says, if osteoporosis, arthritis and a fractured hip hadn't interfered. She worked steadily for 41 years but couldn't save much to supplement Social Security and Medicaid.

"I pay $495 (a month) here for rent," says Wilberding, 69. A caregiver assists her weekly, and a woman helps clean the apartment every other week. In between, "I try to keep it up as good as I can."

Wilberding will be one of many Midlanders to receive a food voucher this year from The World-Herald's Goodfellows program, which she learned about through Heartland Family Services.

Pictures of her nine nieces and nephews share her apartment with her cat, bird, dolls, figurines and stuffed animals. "When their kids were little, I'd say, 'Sit down and have Aunt Sandy take your picture.'"

The Iowa native loved volunteering for political campaigns and events at St. Peter Catholic Church. She would mind Summer Arts Festival booths so artists could eat lunch.

Though she now must use a walker or cane, "I thank God for the health I have and my precious family and friends."
